The Madisonville Fire Department knows how the fire began at the Comfort Inn and Suites on Powell Drive. On Wednesday around noon, the maintenance crew was attempting to burn weeds around the pool building with a blow torch. Property damage is estimated at 175-thousand dollars.
The mother of the Madisonville child who tested positive for meth is in the county jail. 19-year-old Florence Carner and her 23-month-old child were drug tested during a Department for Community Based Services investigation. Carner claimed she did not know how the child came into contact with meth, but that their home was frequented by drug users. The police investigation found that Carner had also given meth to a 12-year-old several times in the last month.
The Dawson Springs Police need your help identifying an individual. His photo is on their Facebook page. It’s believed this person has been breaking into storage trailers and stealing tools being used by volunteer groups who are helping to rebuild the community. A-A-R-P says around 60-thousand older Kentuckians will save money on medications beginning in January. Gary Adkins says older adults have been burdened by skyrocketing drug prices. According to the Commonwealth Fund, Americans on Medicare pay more for medications than older adults in other high-income counties, and are more likely to forego picking up prescriptions due to cost.

Friday is another Hero’s Hour in Madisonville for veterans and active military. It’s Friday from 9 until 10 at City Hall.
The tornado of 2021 continues to produce headlines. Governor Beshear has awarded 250-thousand dollars to boost tourism in Hopkins and Christian counties. He says the state will not stop until every home and every life is rebuilt. This week, Mr. Beshear has dedicated seven new homes. This includes almost 5 million to expand high-speed internet to more than 800 homes and businesses in Hopkins County. He also announced over 6-million in funding to improve infrastructure and support economic development in the region.
The Hopkins County Health Department is the recipient of a mental health grant for the public schools that will deal with the 2021 tornado. Director Denise Beach shared this information.

William Warner Junior was last seen walking from the Muhlenberg County Detention Center on Monday, September 9th, at approximately 5 PM. He was wearing blue shorts and a white T-shirt.
