The reduction in Big Lots stores across the country will include the Madisonville store on Madison Square Drive. It will close its doors in November, as Big Lots files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
The driver of a sports bike is now in an out of state hospital being treated for injuries sustained in a collision with a Honda Accord early Wednesday morning in Madisonville. 34-year-old Justin Conrad collided on a curve with the vehicle being driven by 33-year-old Elberto Ramos in the 500 block of Elva Road.
In Madisonville, the police are releasing the name of the 6-year-old girl who was killed in a head-on collision Monday night on Nebo Road. Aurorra Gaskill lost her life not far from Rainwater Lane. Three others were treated at the E-R.
Everyone is glad that the missing 4-year-old boy with autism is O-K. Tommy Holmes was found to be missing Monday evening. On Tuesday, he and the family dogs were found about a mile away near Nortonville. The Sheriff’s Office used thermal imaging drones to locate him.
Census data shows that Kentucky has the sixth-highest children’s poverty rate. Rebecca Riddell with nonprofit Oxfam America says the loss of stimulus payments and anti-poverty programs outweighed a rise in incomes statewide, as inflation continued to affect a families’ ability to buy groceries or pay the rent. Riddell says pandemic-related trauma and learning loss continue to impact the overall well-being of Kentucky’s children.

In Madisonville, the Economic Development Corporation is working to promote the city and county to potential businesses. They are hoping by the end of the year to have a 16-acre parcel across from G-E to be build-ready. Executive Director of Operations and Communications is Kelly Forbes. Forbes also says the E-D-C is working on a housing study.
The Hopkins County Clerk’s Office says there is a way to avoid the long lines on election day. All registered voters who have not requested a mail-in absentee ballot can vote early in-person without an excuse. You can vote early on Thursday, October 31st, Friday, November 1st, and Saturday November 2nd from 8 until 4 at the Ballard Convention Center. Muhlenberg County residents damaged by the storms during the last week of May have less a week to apply for federal disaster assistance. The assistance center at 61 Career Way in Central City will be closed beginning on Tuesday, the 24th. Until that time, homeowners, renters, businesses, and nonprofit organizations can apply for long-term, low-interest disaster loans from the Small Business Administration to cover losses not fully compensated by insurance and other sources.
