The Madisonville Police Department is grateful to the state for selecting the city to be the site of the Western Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice-Training Police Academy. The Academy will not only enhance the safety of our city but also contribute to a more vibrant community by strengthening our law enforcement capabilities. The first Academy Class will utilize the Madisonville Police Regional Training Complex until the new facility is complete.
The Webster County Sheriff’s Office is reporting the arrest of a suspect believed to have been involved in a hit and run on I-69. On Thursday in a wooded area near State Route 56 in Sebree, Erik Alforo of Maryland was captured and charged with 8 crimes. His arrest involved using the k-9 Bane and a tazer. At the time of the arrest, Alforo was under the influence of alcohol and other intoxicants.
Census data shows that Kentucky has the sixth-highest children’s poverty rate. Rebecca Riddell (ruh-DELL) with the nonprofit Oxfam America says while poverty rates have increased, they remain below pre-pandemic levels. She says that reveals the effectiveness of programs like the expanded Child Tax Credit. Riddell says the tax credit helped cut child poverty in half during the pandemic
The man described as an unsung hero of the athletic community is now an Honorary Member of the Hopkins Central Athletic Hall of Fame. Jason Carl is the Senior Athletic Trainer at Baptist Health Deaconess Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation. In one capacity or another, Carl has been the athletic trainer for Hopkins Central going back to 2007.

The state representative for Hopkins County in running for re-election. Wade Williams has been endorsed by the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce. Also supporting Williams is the Kentucky Chamber Political Action Committee.
Law enforcement will tell you that sometimes tasers and pepper spray don’t work. The Webster County Sheriff’s Office says that was the case on Saturday when a deputy was attempting to arrest a man who was charged with domestic violence. Eventually, the officers were able to arrest Frank Lamb in Onton on State Route 370-E. He faces 9 charges, including attempting to disarm a police officer and possession of meth and amphetamine.
A possible gas leak is what attracted the Madisonville Fire Department to the Pennyrile Park Apartments on Sunday evening. The management instructed the occupants to evacuate. Atmos Energy found small leaks in two apartments. Atmos shut the gas off and advised the apartment supervisor to have it repaired.
A movie is being shot in Madisonville. Goldenrod Films is producing a film about a concert violinist entitled Playing for Mozart, . One of the producers says Kentucky is one of the leading states when it comes to attracting motion picture companies. Christy Killday says everything clicked when it came to selecting Madisonville as the site of the film. Killday says a Christmas movie will soon go into production.
