It is with great sadness and much love that we say goodbye to our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Shelby Jean Marlowe Combs Dillingham, 88, who went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, October 8, 2024.
She was born on September 27, 1936, in Hazard, KY, as the eldest of three daughters to the late Edith Chapman Marlowe and Harold “Pete” Marlowe. Shelby was a Christian woman of great faith. She was not without hardships in life yet always proved to be resilient and fierce. A woman that thrived in her occupations of both charity and beauty, always available with helpful tips and secrets to share. As many know, a busy life suited Shelby best and her energy was easily contagious. Shopping was her favorite hobby, creating an extensive wardrobe that rivaled designers and provided endless hours of ‘dress-up’ for her once young granddaughters. Shelby Jean was a beautiful, proud lady that will forever reside in the hearts of many.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband and father of her children, James Hurst Combs; son, Billy Ray Combs; and sister, Amy Holt.
Shelby leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband, Thomas Dillingham; loving daughter, Deborah (David) Furgerson; sister, Connie Speaks; granddaughters, Heather (Tom) Preston and Danielle (Andy) Stanley; great-grandchildren, Macy, Madelyn, and Maleah Preston and Sophie, Sadie, and Sawyer Stanley; and several cousins, nieces, nephews, and special friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 12, 2024, in the chapel of Harris Funeral Home with Pastor Johnny McCurry officiating. Burial to follow at Mt. Carmel Church Cemetery in White Plains, KY.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour on Saturday at the funeral home.
