The Madisonville shopper seen concealing merchandise in his pockets and a duffel bag is also facing drug paraphernalia possession charges. 31-year-old Johnathan Butler was arrested shortly after the employees at Dollar General on East Center contacted the police. As the officer was looking for Butler in the store, Butler was kneeling down so as not to be seen. In addition to the merchandise found in his duffel bag, Butler was in possession of a smoking pipe with suspected marijuana residue.
In Webster County, the school superintendent is alerting residents that the district has too many infrastructure issues. On the district’s Facebook page, Aaron Harrell has documented the challenge. He says the district is proposing a nickel tax to help provide repairs and upgrades.
The Court of Appeals has a new deputy chief judge. J. Christopher McNeill will begin serving on January 1st. He will provide administrative oversight to the Court of Appeals in the chief judge’s absence. The 1st Division of the 1st Appellate District includes Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Webster counties.
A public event at the airport is being deemed a success. The Madisonville Regional Airport Manager says around 15-hundred showed up in Anton on Sunday the 8th for the first Flight Before Christmas . Victoria Davenport believes it truly promoted aviation in Madisonville.

The woman riding in a covered child buggy on East Broadway is facing drug charges. At 1:30 on Sunday morning, an officer spotted a bicycle pulling the buggy on East Broadway Street. When the officer spotted a purse with meth and drug paraphernalia inside, the bike rider and the passenger each said that it did not belong to them. When the officer located a debit card inside the purse with the woman’s name on it, Casey Van Dyke was arrested.
The Madisonville man who refused to leave a residence in the 900 block of North Kentucky is facing charges. 26-year-old Michael Sullivan was arrested on Sunday morning at 1:24. When the police were contacted, they were told that there was a male who refused to leave the residence. The investigating officer was notified that Sullivan was in violation of an Emergency Protection Order. In arresting Sullivan, the officer said Sullivan resisted and kicked both officers twice.
Madisonville now has a Safe Haven Baby Box. It’s located on the way to Hanson at fire station number 4 on U-S 41. Mayor Kevin Cotton says the idea for a baby box was suggested by The Door of Hope.
He says the program would not have been possible without the vision of the Knights of Columbus and Dr. James Donley.
The Salvation Army says their Red Kettle Campaign is beginning to wind down. They say donations will remain in the local community with 83 cents of every dollar going directly to programs that help families in need.
