Madisonville’s city attorney believes it’s time step aside. Joe Evans announced his retirement at this week’s city council meeting.
At the meeting, former mayors Philip Terry and Karen Cunningham shared their memories of working with Joe Evans.
The M-P-D is charging a woman with theft of mail matter. 22-year-old Alexis Vannoy of Hopkinsville was arrested on Sugg Street on Tuesday afternoon. The police received a call from a witness who saw three packages removed from the residence. The S-R-O at West Broadway Elementary located Vannoy, who admitted that she had stolen the packages.
The new law that’s intended to help equalize the cost of road construction and maintenance between drivers of gas and electric vehicles goes into effect on January 1st. The new statute raises ownership fees by 5 percent for hybrid and electric vehicles. This investment coincides with Team Kentucky’s buildout of its E-V Charging Program, which anticipates adding up to 50 stations along the major roads in two years.
The Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign is back. It runs through New Year’s Day. Impaired driving-related crashes tend to increase during the holidays. If you see an impaired driver, the state police suggest pulling over and dialing 9-1-1. Those who are impaired are expected to use a ride-booking company or taxi, call a friend or family member, or use public transportation.

Kentucky has often been one of the states with the highest number of porch pirate thefts…but not this year. The M-P-D says the proactive effort against those kind of lawbreakers is working. This includes use of cameras. They make them now that will alert you on your phone if someone is on your porch, or even in your yard.
A number of Kentuckians will be saving money since the governor has announced that the state will provide additional tax relief involving the homestead exemption for this year and next year. Governor Beshear says to qualify, a person must be at least 65 years old during the tax period or classified as totally disabled by any public or private retirement system. He goes on say…
Two people in Muhlenberg County are being indicted following a drug bust by the sheriff’s office. Using a search warrant in a Nelson Creek home, the M-C-S-O says Bobby Waddell and Angela Wilson are charged with multiple crimes, including drug trafficking. Sheriff’s deputies also recovered a Harley motorcycle that had been stolen out of the Beechmont area.
An engineer with the Madisonville Fire Department is at a new level of service. Anthony Smith is being commended for earning a Fire Science degree from Hopkinsville Community College.
Two Madisonville cops are recipients of gubernatorial awards. Officer Brandon Holeman has been granted the Governor’s Impaired Driving Enforcement Award. Officer Dustin Scott was given the Governor’s Occupant Protection Award.
