A number of Frankfort residents know much more about Madisonville and Hopkins County. Members of the the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development and the Governor’s Office recently were given behind the scene tours of G-E Aerospace, Ahlstrom, and Berry Global. The Madisonville Hopkins County Economic Development Corporation described it as an exciting day. The topics discussed included incentives for capital investment-projects and job creation.
When it comes to promoting tourism, Madisonville and Hopkins County has one of the best. As executive director of the Hopkins County Tourist and Convention Commission, Tricia Noel has been honored with this year’s Kentucky Association of Conventions and Visitors Bureau’s Mary Hammond Tourism Director of the Year Award.
A dentist who is also a U-K professor wants to see less tooth decay in kids. Dr. Pam Stein says a survey shows that cavities are much too high for children ages 2 to 5 who attend rural Head Start programs. Stein says it’s important that staff and dental providers meet with Head Start parents to address the reasons that prevent children from receiving needed care.
Stein says left untreated, cavities can trigger numerous issues.
A Kentucky lawmaker in Washington supports a measure that will provide resources for construction projects that will strengthen and improve our waterway infrastructure and create good-paying jobs. James Comer says the Water Resources Development Act will protect lake-related tourism in the Bluegrass State.

Records show that a woman arrested on possession of a controlled substance is being charged with the crime for the third time. 42-year-old Carissa Bowley of Russellville was stopped on Grapevine Road for a traffic violation Tuesday night. The K-9 sniffed out marijuana and meth. After arriving at the jail, it was discovered that Bowley had hidden more marijuana in her clothing.
The new state police training center in Madisonville is on the verge of becoming very busy. Police Chief Steve Bryan says they are getting close to hiring the last instructor.
Bryan says five persons have been interviewed.
The F-F-A from Hopkins County Central will compete in a National competition in Oklahoma in May. The team earned the right last month by achieving the state title in both the Land Judging and the Homesite contests. In both contests, Jo Oakley was the overall high individual in the state. It was first time that a school and an individual have won both contests. The Hopkins Central Wildlife team is also a state winner. They have been invited to compete in the National Wildlife Habitat Education Program contest next summer.
The city of Madisonville says the next ice skating event will be on Saturday and Sunday, December 21st and 22nd. It will be downtown at 36 East Center Street. The hours both days will be from 11 until 7.
Here are the results of the Hopkins County Schools Roll Rumble 2024. Top honors go to Hopkins Central. The rolls baked by the cafeteria staff had the Best Smell, Best Volume, and Best Overall Taste.
