City offices in Madisonville will be closed tomorrow (on Christmas Eve) and Christmas Day. The trash and recycle routes will be altered. Tomorrow’s (Tuesday’s) route will be run on Thursday. Wednesday and Thursday’s routes will be run on Friday. Friday’s route will be run on Saturday.
The Madisonville police are reporting the arrest of a driver involved in a Thursday morning accident. The investigation officer concluded that Brooke Murphy was intoxicated at the accident site on West Noel and Hopewell. Later, she admitted that she had smoked marijuana about an hour before the collision. Murphy also surrendered her remaining marijuana to the police. She could not produce a driver’s license or proof of insurance. Murphy faces five charges.
The Kentucky Department of Education says Dawson Springs is almost the the state’s fastest growing school district. Dawson Springs is second on the list with just under 900 students from Pre-K through 12th. Winning this distinction is the Paris City Schools in Bourbon County.
The Webster County Schools are pushing for a nickel tax to fund facility improvements. Administrators say that without this support, critical repairs and upgrades may be delayed. They see the new tax as an investment. Details about the program are on Parent-Square. A Property Tax Calculator on the school district’s website is intended to help residents determine how much property taxes will increase.

The governor says this was a very good year for the Cram the Cruiser’ food drive. The state police say this year’s donations were 42-thousand more pounds than last year. Governor Beshear says the non-perishable food items will be distributed to shelters, food banks and churches, and will brighten the holiday season for those in need.
The grandson of a Madisonville resident is facing four charges after damaging her vehicle while driving it without her permission. The woman’s caregiver made a video of Austin Hopper returning to the property after having damaged the Ford F-150 on a joyride. Hopper is also charged with not possessing an operator’s license, and theft of a registration plate. Hopper said he removed his grandmother’s registration plate and placed it on his vehicle to make it look registered.
Madisonville’s fire chief believes the new baby box will serve the community well. Jason Eli says the baby will receive a great deal of care.
The baby box is located at Fire Station 4 in Madisonville. That’s at 5-thousand Hanson Road.
Two new bridges and a new roadway that will become southbound I-69 in Henderson are opening to traffic. It’s considered a milestone for Section 1 of the Ohio River Crossing project. They say this is the final configuration for traffic that will be in place when the project is complete. Due to the holiday season, construction activity in the next couple of weeks is limited.
