The slippery roads are being made even more dangerous. The Providence Police are reporting that in ten minutes of driving, they had to stop 5 times for deer. They say the deer are gathering in the road in some cases more than normal to get some of the salt. So drivers, beware.
Even to the casual observer, Madisonville seems to be growing. Mayor Kevin Cotton says this includes new businesses, new housing projects, and new roads. When it comes to roads, he says the city has figured out a way to increase its road budget. Kevin Cotton says this has helped the city keep up with the pothole and repaving projects.
The driver of a Ford Ranger on I-69 who did not have a registration plate on Saturday afternoon is in the detention center charged with three crimes. 50-year-old Robert Terry of Nebo told the cop that his driver’s license was suspended. While on the way to jail, Terry also admitted that he was in possession of meth.
Respiratory illnesses like COVID and flu are rising in our community and hospital admissions are increasing. Owensboro Health says they are taking extra precautions with thorough cleaning protocols and infection prevention measures.

Sometimes the Madisonville Fire Department arrives to find no fire or smoke. They spoke with the person who called 9-1-1 and concluded that there was smoke around four homes on Richmond Drive that apparently had been produced by a car.

The new Madisonville Police Regional Training Complex is doing some cross-over training. In recent days, the Madisonville Fire Department’s Rescue 4 crew has led a class in victim search techniques for both police and firefighters. Due to the cold weather, everyone was able to practice victim search, and rapid intervention team skills.
The driver of a vehicle on Island Ford Road with a broken windshield is facing four charges. Jason Lloyd was not in possession of his driver’s license but was in possession of marijuana. Lloyd was judged by the officer as being impaired due to the illicit drug and was transported to the hospital for a blood draw, followed by a stop at the county jail.
It’s not unusual for a damaged powerline to show smoke and fire. This matter was experienced by the Madisonville fire crew on Valley Drive on Sunday afternoon when a resident called to report a blown transformer with heavy smoke and fire. The fire crew found no flames or smoke but noted that the powerline was in contact with several tree limbs that were addressed by the city’s electrical department.
