The National Weather Service says this week’s temperatures are expected to run close to 20 degrees below normal.
In Webster County, there are 8 warming centers, and more may be added. Organizations that would like to be a warming center should contact Emergency Management.
The Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office is hoping someone can identify the man who was fatally struck by a train in Earlington on Saturday afternoon. The incident occurred in the 6-thousand block of Hopkinsville Road at 4:30. The man is thought to be 20 to 25 years of age. He was wearing slip-on boots, blue jeans with black long johns and a black Under Armour hoodie. The H-C-S-O also says he also may have been wearing a blue-black zip up jacket.
The newest attraction in Madisonville is the Kentucky Sports Factory. Even though it’s not officially open, it held its first indoor soccer tournament this past weekend, and all went well. The city says it’s on the brink of announcing the official opening of the venue.

We’re seeing the worst weather we’ve had in a long time. A bitter Arctic blast of cold air will arrive in the Commonwealth later this week. Roads are treacherous due to black ice, especially in the mornings. The gusty wind is making it worse.
The Hopkins County Humane Society is concerned about animals kept out in the cold. The say they can help but they need to know as quickly as possible because it may take a while for them to get to your property. Humane society officials say even a garage or basement is better than outdoors. Complicating the situation is dehydration because all of the water sources freeze.
There is a make-up meeting today for the Madisonville City Council. The body will consider amending the city’s code relating to residential use of the central business district. The council will also discuss the agreement the city has with the county relating to the management and operation of the Y-A-A Sports Facility. The meeting begins at 4:30 at city hall.
A special high school athletic event is taking place will take place in Dawson Springs this week. The All-A Basketball Tournament begins this evening. The finals will be on Friday and Saturday evenings.
A reading program for young children is being expanded. The goal of the Imagination Library of Kentucky is to inspire a love of reading by making books available to all income categories. Governor Beshear says the plan is to provide one free book a month to each child.
