The National Weather Service is forecasting much warmer conditions for Thursday through Saturday, with a good chance of rain.The annual celebration of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Junior at Madisonville Community College is today. It begins at 12-20 at the Steve Beshear Postsecondary Education Center. The guest speaker will be Pastor Terrence Minor from Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. The program includes vocalist Terry Slaton, and the Madisonville North Chorus.
The Madisonville resident spotted by a cop who knew he was using a suspended driver’s license is facing charges. Gilberto Perez was arrested last week on North Harrig Street. Perez is also being charged with driving with a broken windshield that had cracks across the entire window.
Some are worried that the state’s uninsured rate could climb since Advanced Premium Tax Credits related to the Affordable Care Act will expire at the end of the year. Today (Wednesday) is the last day to enroll. Priscilla Easterling with Kentucky Voices for Health says experts are available to help residents take advantage of tax credits.

Frankfort says now is the time for college students, as well as upcoming freshmen, to apply for a state-sponsored engineering or construction-management scholarship. Up to 25 will be awarded in civil engineering, engineering technology and construction management. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says the scholarships come with a paid summer job and guaranteed employment upon graduation.
#2Today is opening day for the Kentucky Sports Factory. The 90-thousand square foot facility at 839 Midtown Boulevard has the flexibility to host local, regional, and national events involving several sports. The city and county expect the Kentucky Sports Factory to attract families from all over Western Kentucky and beyond with its basketball, volleyball, and pickleball courts, as well as a 60-yard turf field. There are a number of photos of the venue on the Facebook page of the Kentucky Sports Factory.

The Hopkins County Schools will need a new superintendent starting in July. Amy Smith informed the school board of her retirement at Monday night’s school board meeting. Smith says she is looking forward to the rest of her term.
Drivers with license plates that are not well illuminated are likely to be stopped. A Madisonville cop pulled over Jesse Hibbs on Saturday night on South Main near Bagdett. Central Dispatch notified the officer that Hibbs’ driver’s license was suspended.
The Hopkins County Clerk’s Office wants you to know that there has been a delay in renewals this month. They say you may be able to beat the rush if you don’t wait until the end of the month.
Webster County Emergency Management is announcing that they are now in a volunteer national program that is designed to help counties and communities take a proactive approach to severe weather. StormReady counties work with the National Weather Service, State Emergency Management, and the media. Among other things, StormReady counties improve the timeliness and effectiveness of hazardous weather warnings.
