The National Weather Service is forecasting an extended period of dangerous cold that’s expected to begin on Sunday, and continue through Wednesday.
The fire bells rings at any hour. On Sunday morning at 1-42, the M-F-D raced to the Park Avenue Baptist Church at 1-32 Park Avenue. The fire crew could not see any fire but they could hear the alarm. Their search produced no fire or smoke. They located the fire alarm panel after gaining entry with the keys provided in the Knox Box.
Law enforcement can run a license plate through the computer any time they like. When they did that during the 3 AM hour on Wednesday in Madisonville, they found that the driver of the Ford Ranger had a suspended driver’s license and could not prove he had auto insurance. In no time, a drug dog sniffed out illegal narcotics and a round white pill identified as oxycodone hydrochloride was discovered. 50-year-old William Hamilton of Madisonville is charged with three crimes.
One of the priorities with the General Assembly is continuing the push for tax relief. Most lawmakers agree that Kentucky’s growth depends reducing the tax rate. The measure’s sponsor is Representative Jason Petrie of Oakton.
The tax modernization began three years ago. The plan is to end the state income tax, as is the case in Florida, Tennessee, and Texas.
The Green River Area Development District says the AmeriCorps-Serve Kentucky Program is gearing up for its annual Day of Service. That day is Monday, the 20th, the Dr. Martin Luther King Junior holiday. GRADD employs 29 AmeriCorps members who will be spending the day in Owensboro serving at St. Benedict’s Homeless Shelter for men.

The Madisonville Fire Department says fire was coming from a window when they first arrived at a residence this past Sunday afternoon. When it was determined that no one was inside at 4-21 Hall Street, they proceeded to put out the fire. The E-M-T’s provided oxygen to two cats, and the Red Cross was notified that the residents would need assistance.
The state representative whose district includes Webster County will again be the chair of the Natural Resources and Energy Committee. Jim Gooch of Providence also serves on several other committees, including Banking and Insurance; Elections, Constitutional Amendments, and Intergovernmental Affairs.
