The city and county are celebrating the successful opening of the first large event at the Kentucky Sports Factory. Volleyball players from 5 states packed out the place this past weekend in what is expected to be the largest event of the year. It’s estimated that just over 3-thousand visited the venue on Midtown Boulevard. Some of the players said they had never played in such a nice complex. Naturally, some issues surfaced, but Mayor Kevin Cotton says they will be corrected. He says more seating will be ordered.
The Madisonville-Hopkins County Economic Development Corporation has a new board member and investor. Justin Lamb brings over two decades of engineering and surveying expertise to the board. Lamb is the owner and President of the civil, surveying, and geotechnical engineering firm based in Madisonville known as Ronald Johnson & Associates.
In Muhlenberg County, the school district says over 40 percent of new kindergarteners do not possess enough educational skills. The free Getting Ready 4 Kindergarten program seeks to help parents nurture a child’s educational development. To participate, you and your child are invited to attend two early evening sessions at your elementary school. The dates are February 18th, and March 18th. The registration deadline is Sunday, the 9th.
The Hopkins County Fiscal Court meets this morning at the Government Center. Reports will be heard from the county attorney, sheriff, jailer, and treasurer. The meeting begins at 10.
he Hopkins County School District is out with information regarding transfers. Applications are available on the district website, and at the Hopkins County Schools Central Office. The deadline for submitting an application is April 1st. The details are on the district’s website.
Law enforcement will tell you that the creation of the Hopkins County Vice-Narotics Unit a few years ago was an excellent decision. MPD Chief Steve Bryan says the city and county officers are impacting the community in a positive way.
The Hopkins County School District says of the Community Schools initiative is bringing people together. In recent days, the Community Conversations meeting saw groups reviewing school action plans for both Browning Springs Middle and Madisonville North Hopkins. There were also brainstorming discussions on new areas of need. The next Community Leadership Meeting will be on Thursday, March 20th from 11:30 until 1. All parents are invited.
