Road improvements will slow traffic on a short stretch of I-69 in Madisonville for most of this year. The first stage will have the fast lane blocked in each direction from Island Ford Road to just south of the Fowler Road overpass. This will allow the construction of new crash safety walls around bridge piers at the U-S 41 and KY 281 overpasses. Damaged guardrails will also be replaced. The project also includes some new pavement.
In Hopkins County, the president of the Geneological Society says over 60 Revolutionary War soldiers were from Hopkins County. This week, Betty Cox encouraged the fiscal court to form a committee to create a memorial. Cox says the committee could also organize the Hopkins County celebration of the nation’s 250 birthday next year.
The Madisonville man riding a moped after hours near the Welcome Center on Mahr Park Drive on Monday night is now in the detention center. Central Dispatch notified the police that there was a warrant for John Morgan’s arrest in Barren County. A body search of Morgan located a substance thought to be meth, and a glass pipe.

Just recently, every law enforcement officer in Hopkins County met to make sure everyone is on the same page. County Attorney Lee Riddle says this kind of cooperation is not that common.

A drug investigation by the Muhlenberg County Sheriff’s Department and the Pennyrile Narcotics Task Force is over. 49-year-old Antonio Lorusso of Louisville was arrested at a home on Brown Lane. Lorusso had an active parole warrant. Found at the scene were marijuana, mushrooms, and suspected meth.
Our governor is standing up for the bourbon industry. Andy Beshear is encouraging our congressional delegation to end the tariffs. He says federal tariffs have led to retaliatory actions on Kentucky bourbon that could be costly, disruptive, and harmful to the 23 -thousand Kentuckians employed in the industry. He says Kentuckians are paying a larger economic price than the rest of the country.

The measure would permanently enact and expand existing prohibitions on the use of U.S. foreign assistance to pay for the performance or promotion of abortion services overseas. Dr. Paul believes no American taxpayer should be forced to fund abortions overseas.
