The Madisonville City Council is going along the Kentucky League of Cities resolution. It opposes any bills brought forth during this year’s General Assembly by any lawmaker that provides for the mandated centralized collection of local occupational fees or taxes by the state. It’s facing some opposition, but Madisonville Mayor Kevin Cotton likes it. Proponents of the proposal argue a centralized collection could streamline the process.

The Hopkins County School District is searching for a new superintendent. Weeks ago, Amy Smith announced her June retirement. The search process will be handled by the Kentucky School Leadership Associates. The last day to apply is March 17th.
With an increase in hospital admissions for respiratory viruses, Owensboro Health Regional Hospital is implementing some visitor restrictions. Persons with fever, a cough, or a sore throat are not allowed to visit the hospital. Children under 18 are at particular risk and are discouraged from visiting. Masks are also encouraged.

The Muhlenberg County Detention Center is holding three persons arrested in a Daviess County drug bust. On Monday, the state police used a search warrant to collect evidence in a Utica residence along East Harmons Ferry Road. It included suspected methamphetamine, cocaine, and marijuana. Arrested were Edward Morris, Keisha Morris, and Case Layson.
