First responders are reporting a remarkable rescue of a man before daybreak on Monday morning. They found him standing on top of his pickup truck that was almost covered in floodwaters on Kentucky 176. The Greenville and Drakesboro fire departments, along with the Sheriff’s Office used a rescue boat after seeing him waving a light inside a wooded area. He dove in and swam to the boat and was immediately treated for hypothermia before being transported to the E-R.
The state says children four and younger are accidentally ingesting drugs and dying at an alarming rate. Dr. Melissa Currie says of the fatal overdose and ingestion cases, 80-percent were preventable. She, and others, say the children need substance screenings when getting medical care.
There’s new leadership at the West Kentucky Area Health Education Center. Baptist Health Deaconess Madisonville is congratulating Laura Watkins to this position. She has 17 years of experience in the Hopkins County Schools. Watkins says she is eager to help strengthen healthcare workforce development and education.
The Madisonville man who escaped from a work detail with the Christian County Detention Center in December is once again incarcerated. The state police say 52-year-old Kevin Johnson is facing charges related to the escape and a warrant out of Hopkins County. The Madisonville police say he was a passenger in a vehicle during a traffic stop on Monday near the intersection of North Main and Pebble Creek Drive. Johnson is now currently in Hopkins County Detention Center facing charges related to the escape and a warrant out of Hopkins County.
Two Madisonville residents are recovering from minor injuries sustained in a Sunday morning traffic accident. On Park Avenue at East Broadway, the police say 31-year-old Taylor Copple ran through stop light in her Hyundai Sonata and collided with the Chevrolet Trailblazer being driven by 47-year-old Jennifer Brainard.
