The National Weather Service says we can expect warm weather this week with a chance of showers on Wednesday night.
The Hopkins County Schools are announcing what they call a game changer. Starting in the fall, one new Middle School Career Lab will be located in each of the four middle schools. The labs will encourage the 6th to 8th graders to explore a variety of potential career fields. The project is being funded by Career and Technical Education Supplemental Funds through the Kentucky Department of Education. The district says businesses interested in being a sponsor should consider it an investment in the future of Hopkins County.
Law enforcent is searching for a missing car in Central City. The police say the 2001 Toyota Corolla disappeared Saturday night or Sunday morning from the 700 block of Morehead Street. It has an Indiana license plate. The last three digits are 8-3-0.
Webster County is receiving some national recognition. The Green River Area Development District says it’s the transformation of the old coal mine administrative building into what’s now known as the Lisman Workforce Complex, where students are trained in technical careers. Last week, Judge Executive Steve Henry attended the National Association of Counties Conference in Washingto D-C. He discussed the critical role coal communities play in economic revitalization.
The state says children four and younger are accidentally ingesting drugs and dying at an alarming rate. Dr. Melissa Currie says of the fatal overdose and ingestion cases, 80-percent were preventable.
The Madisonville-Hopkins County Economic Development Corporation says the opening weeks of the Kentucky Sports Factory could hardly have been more successful. The venue at 8-39 Midtown Boulevard has already hosted four tournaments that have produced an enormous economic impact. The project has been underway with the city and county for the better part of 15 years.
In Providence, the police are reporting the arrest of a shoplifter. On Thursday, the department says Randy Travis collected more than 200-dollars in merchandise from Dollar General on North Broadway and commanded the cashier to only charge him one penny. The police arrived to find the cashier handcuffed and the suspect standing outside the store. The police say there was also a warrant for Travis’ arrest. Once inside the detention facility, Travis removed his handcuffs and assaulted an officer but was unable to escape. Travis is charged with 7 or more crimes.

The state senator representing Hopkins County says there’s plenty of work remaining with just days to go in the legislative session. Robby Mills also says much has been accomplished. As the Majority Caucus Chair, Mills says he’s been working closely with other Senate members to help them with their individual priorities and to help the Caucus achieve its overall goals.
