In Madisonville, the driver going over twice the speed limit is facing 7 charges. Devin Branscum was arrested on Sugg Street on Monday during the 1 AM hour. His vehicle was using an outdated license plate. When Branscum stepped out of his Lincoln M-K-A, the officer reported that there was a smell of alcohol. On the way to the jail, Branscum became irate and confrontational, refusing to listen to the officer, and refusing to do a breath test.
Madisonville has a new cop. Jett McKnight has most recently served in Richmond. He was sworn in this week in the City Council Chambers with his family by his side. McKnight has earned the Exceptional Service Award and holds certifications in bike patrol, the crisis intervention team, and sexual assault.
The city of Hanson believes it needs a civic park. City planner Silas Matchem says many believe it would help the city grow. (Clip in audio file below.) Matchem says fundraising efforts are beginning.
Law enforcement is warning Sacramento residents about a text scam. They say the scammer is taking a survey about Sacramento. Law enformcent says this not a legitimate survey and residents should have nothing to do with it.
M-C-C is gearing up for their International Cultural Celebration. They say it’s a great way to immerse yourself in different cultures. The day is Wednesday, April 16th from 9-30 until 2.
The Madisonville police say the two persons they arrested on fentanyl possession charges on Sunday afternoon say they found it in their vehicle. The police spotted their truck crossing the double yellow line and did a traffic stop on Island Ford Road. An M-P-D canine located the purple powder and two cut straws. Eric Stallins and Sierra Lutz did not claim ownership of the substance but they were both arrested.
In Madisonville, a financial aid advisor at M-C-C has been selected for this year’s cohort of the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education’s Academic Leadership Development Institute. Myah Leonard was nominated because of her leadership potential, dedication to student success, and commitment to growth in higher education. The institute is a year-long program that helps faculty and staff build leadership skills.
A measure in Frankfort is intended to bring the state in line with federal law when it comes to protecting bodies of water. Critics say it would compromise water quality and public health. Here is Julia Finch of the Kentucky Sierra Club. (Audio clip in file below)
The Kentucky Geological Survey says more than one-point-five million residents are served by public water systems that rely on groundwater, and about 416-thousand rely on wells or springs for water.
The school calendar for the Muhlenberg County Public Schools is out. You can find it on the district’s Facebook page. Fall classes begin on August 27th and the fall break begins on October 6th.
