The state will begin construction this summer on a state of the art law enforcement training center in Madisonville that will compliment the one in Richmand and make it more convenient and less expensive for the law enforcement agencies in our state. M-P-D Major Jason McKnight describes what will be constructed off Bean Cemetery Road. Major McKnight says the facility will utilize high tech training like never before.
A Madisonville factory has a new contract. General Electric Aerospace on Nebo Road and a factory in Massachusetts will receive about 200-million dollars to produce the new T-901 Black Hawk and Apache helicopter engine. Nationally, General Electric Aerospace will hire nearly 5-thousand workers in 24 locations in 16 states.
A prominent Green River bridge will be tested by the Transportation Cabinet today (Thursday). The routine inspection of the Kentucky 56 bridge will last all day. The inspection will include the use of catwalks, drones and a specialized under-bridge vehicle. Traffic will be controlled by flaggers.
An organization that promotes postsecondary education for every Muhlenberg County student is hosting a Career Fair event today at the high school. It’s being described as an opportunity for businesses to meet the seniors. They say the career fair will help each student gain business exposure. It’s from 10 until 2.
In Hopkins County, the new sheriff’s office is taking shape. For some time, the H-C-S-O has been working from the cramped basement of the Government Center. Among other things, it’s felt the new location near the archery complex on Grapevine Road will improve response time to many of their calls. The new location will have a drive-thru window for taxes and covered area for vehicle inspections. Federal funds are covering most all of the 7 point 2 million dollar construction costs.
The Madisonville man who pulled away from the police as they attempted to handcuff him is facing three charges. The police were called to the Ideal Market on East Center Street at 2:15 Monday morning where there had been a verbal confrontation. The police found that there was an active arrest warrant for Storey Daniel. He is charged with disorderly conduct, public intoxication, and resisting arrest. The police say Daniel’s arrest caused a scene at the store.
Kentucky lawmakers are considering a measure that would increase alternatives-to-prison for parents convicted of non-violent offenses. Most of those serving time have young children who experience a lifelong imprint. Amanda Hall says her college age son, who was separated from her, still experiences trama. One advocacy group claims nearly 50-percent of these kids face frequent socioeconomic hardship.
Anything you can do to make a crisis or emergency less stressful is always welcomed. The Baptist Health Deaconess Foundation has added phone-charging stations to the Emergency Department and Critical Care Unit. They believe this is one way to improve the experience for visitors and families.
