The senator who serves Hopkins County in Frankfort is describing the just completed legislative session as very consequential. Robby Mills says over the next few weeks, he will be reviewing many of the decisions on his Facebook page. He also wants to thank voters for allowing him to serve.
In Madisonville, there are some minor changes to the I-69 rehab project. The barrier wall on the northbound overpass at Exit 117 to U.S. 41 will be coming down today. The road will remain restricted to one lane at that point. Crews say they will then relocate the barrier wall to the southbound side of the interstate as an extra safety precaution for workers working in close proximity to traffic. Lane restrictions and reduced speed will remain in place throughout the project area.
One of the reasons Madisonville has such a high regard for law enforcement is the Citizens Police Academy. A group of residents gather for 2-hours once week for about eight weeks to learn and experience what it’s like to be cop. Most all say that they learned a lot about policing. Webster County Emergency Management says C-S-X Crossing repairs will begin today. This will be in Henderson County at the one-tenth mile point near the Webster County line.
In Hopkins County this morning, the fiscal court has the first of two meetings this month at the Government Center. It begins at 10 o’clock. Included is a time for citizens to comment.
The Madisonville police are charging a Hopkins County woman with bribing a witness. Janet Carter’s sister was arrested for assault last month. During the investigation, it was discovered that Janet Carter had reached out to the victim of the assault and offered her a bribe in the hopes of inducing the victim to avoid the legal process.
The Webster County Sheriff’s Office is reporting the arrest of a driver and his passenger following a collision on Saturday evening thought to be related to D-U-I. Charles Quinn and Glen Binion were arrrested on State Route 132-West near Clay. Quinn and Binion matched the description given to those involved in the collision. Deputies recovered open alcoholic beverage containers, as well as quantities of methamphetamine, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and controlled substances. Quinn faces 6 charges, Binion 4.
School districts buying directly from farmers are being recognized. The Kentucky Department of Agriculture wants to reward those districts. John Cain with Feeding Kentucky says research shows children who eat local food at school lunch or breakfast are more likely to eat more fruits and vegetables. Cain says for every dollar spent on local foods, two dollars and sixteen cents is generated in local economic activity.
