This is the busiest month of the year at the county clerk’s office. In Hopkins County, Clerk Keenan Cloern addressed the fiscal court.
A mobile dental unit is available today in Providence. Health First Community Health has partnered with KARE Mobile Dentistry of Louisville. Kare Mobile provides comprehensive dental care in their mobile clinics. The Health First Community Health Center says the dental unit will be open this morning at 9 at 2-15 East Main.
Today, local postal unions are participating in a National Day of Action. Union President Mark Dimondstein says many depend on the service’s commitment to deliver mail regardless of where they live. The Trump administration has also floated the idea of privatizing the post office.
This year, it’s the 3rd annual Hall of Fame Dinner. The Hopkins County Young Professionals are honoring those who have made a lasting impact. Four persons will be added. They are former sheriff, Jailer, and judge executive Donnie Carroll, former NASA aerospace engineer Robert Carter, former Air Force officer and Family Nurse Practitioner Mary Wooldridge, and former basketball player and coach, Frank Ramsey. The Young Professional of the Year Award will be made to Melanie Tapp of M-C-C. The dinner will be this evening at 5:30 at Mahr Park Aboretum.
The Madisonville Fire Department is now saying that a family dog may have started a major home fire. The fire department raced to 10-18 Grapevine on Saturday night at 8. They say the homeowner left some groceries on the stovetop and that a dog must have hit one of the knobs to turn the appliance on. . Once all of the fire in the living room and kitchen was under control, the search began for anyone in the house. The dog was located in the bedroom and it appeared to be O-K. Fans were used to clear the house of smoke. The residence experienced 125-thousand dollars in property and content losses.
The Hopkins County School District says of the Community Schools initiative is bringing people together. In recent days, the Community Conversations meeting saw groups reviewing school action plans for both Browning Springs Middle and Madisonville North Hopkins. There were also brainstorming discussions on new areas of need. The next Community Leadership meeting is today at 11:30. Parents are invited.
This week, Kentucky schools are celebrating the first state-wide Agriculture Education Week. The Madisonville North High School ag program offers career pathways in Ag Power, Animal Science, and Horticulture. Each provides hands-on experience.
In our nation’s capitol, a new committee wants to make the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention more effective. Senator Rand Paul says during COVID-19, the C-D-C was not transparent, and overstepped its statutory authorities. He says their mission and focus need to re-evaluated. Senator Paul and others say in general, the C-D-C mishandled the pandemic.
