Tex David Smith, 76 of Dawson Springs passed away Sunday, March 23, 2025, at his home with his family at his side. Born April 15, 1948, to the late Mark and Pauline (Cannon) Smith, Sr. He was a long-standing member of Union Temple General Baptist Church in St. Charles where he served the Lord in any way that he was needed. Tex served as the Sunday School Superintendent, played the bass guitar and served as a deacon to just name a few. He worked throughout his life as a coalminer for Peabody Coal Company and was a proud member of the UMWA local District #12 for over 50 years. Tex also enjoyed hunting in general, all game was fair game to him, and he was a lifetime member of the NRA. He and his beloved wife, Janet, were happily married for 58 years.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by 2 brothers, an infant Mark Allen Smith and Mark Junior Smith; and 2 sisters, Julia Earl Delong and Paulette Hulsey.
Survived by his wife, Janet (Young) Smith; son, Troy (Amy) Smith of Hanson; daughter, Tammy (Ron) Dozer of Greenville; grandchildren, Cpt. Jacob (Regan) McIntosh of TX, Major Ethan (Roxanne) McIntosh of TX, Kaylee Darnell of Crofton and Ryan (Kaylea) Smith of Crofton; great-grandchildren, Elijah and Luke McIntosh and Bailey Darnell; sister, Lois LaPradd of St. Charles; and special nephews, Danny Earl and Richard LaPradd.
Service will be held Friday at 1:00pm with Bro. Danny Green and Bro. David Hoard officiating at Bandy Funeral Home in Nortonville. Burial to follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in White Plains. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5:00pm – 7:00pm and Friday from 11:00am until service hour at the funeral home.
