Hopkins County authorities are investigating two automobile crashes Thursday night involving the same driver. The first one was in Nortonville on Jessie Street. The second one was near Crofton. Deputies say 61-year-old Donald Burns left the first crash where he flipped a Tesla, causing it to catch fire. He returned to his home and got in another vehicle. In the Crofton crash, his front seat passenger was hurt. Both Burns and 26-year-old Julius Willis were treated for their injuries. Alcohol is said to be a factor in both crashes.
One of the hardest home appliances to move is the gas range. In trying to move one at 351 Branch Street, the gas line was hit and a leak occurred. It was so bad that there was a hiss. Atmos Energy was called and service to the home was terminated. (0322/1206)
The Hopkins County Career and Technology Center has a new principal. Alaina Lancaster has served as the director of secondary instruction for the last five years. In her past, Lancaster was an agriculture teacher and F-FA advisor at Madisonville North, and adjunct professor at Murray State University Racer Academy.
The most loved dog in Madisonville is the comfort dog of the Madisonville police. Cash’s handler says Cash works his magic wherever he goes. Major Justin Jones describes a recent visit to a school. (Clip in audio below)
A fugitive wanted in Evansville is back where he belongs thanks to an assist from the M-P-D. Daniel Riggle was located at 24-25 South Main on Thursday evening. Riggle will be extradited to Vanderburgh County.
The Kentucky State Police are investigating a deadly, head-on collision in Muhlenberg County on Friday morning. The two-vehicle accident around 4:30 on Highway 181 was about a mile south of the Western Kentucky Parkway. Dead is 61-year-old Nevin Bard. The police say 22-year-old Tyler Caple fell asleep, crossed the center line, and hit Bard’s vehicle. Caple’s injuries are described as non-life threatening.
In Muhlenberg County, authorities are searching for a missing teenager. 15-year-old Jake Johnson is white. He has brown hair and eyes. He’s 5-7 and 140-pounds. The Muhlenberg County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in finding Jake Johnson.
The Kentucky Oral Health Coalition says the dental health of the children in our state is below the national average. Jennifer Harrison says the group is backing proposed legislation that would allow Public Health Registered Dental Hygienists the ability to treat school children and others. (Clip in audio below) Public health hygienists are allowed to provide assessments, cleanings, education, fluoride varnish and sealants to mainly underserved populations.
