In Madisonville, the man found in possession of a gun on school property is under arrest with a 10-thousand dollar bond. The incident involving Tony Sewell occurred on Saturday in the 300 block of West Arch. A caller notified the police that there was an argument and one of the men had a gun. Sewell’s weapon was in his waistband.
The Webster County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a man who ran from a deputy. The incident occurred Friday afternoon in Providence near the Huck’s Service Station in the area of South Willow and South Broadway. Anyone with information should share it with authorities. He’s a white man with brown hair. There’s a photo on the sheriff’s offices’ Facebook page.
Short circuits are the cause of many fires. The Madisonville Fire Department reported to 562 Jamestown Drive after the resident reported a burning smell coming from a dryer plug in one of the apartments. The crew said he did the right thing in shutting off the breaker to the dryer. They advised him to let maintenance fix the issue with the plug before having the power restored. (1949/0326)
This is National Second Chance Month. The Prison Policy Initiative is reporting that out of more than 50-thousand people in 2010, 33-percent found no employment in the four years following release. Ray Mansfield of the The Louisville Office of the Center for Employment Opportunities says those who have paid their debts to society often do a lot of internal work to rehabilitate, but opportunities to change their lives are limited. The man Hopkins County authorities have been searching for almost a week is now incarcerated. After receiving a tip, Jonathan Ruby was captured yesterday. Ruby passed out in a truck following an accident and escaped into the woods when the police discovered that there was a warrant for his arrest. Rudy now faces additional drug charges after locating drugs in his possession. He faces six charges, including theft of identity without consent.
The Webster County Sheriff’s Office has the report of the 6-vehicle collision on Friday on U-S 41 near Slaughters. Several people were injured just after one-o’clock near Frank Benson Road. The deputies found that two separate collisions occurred close together at nearly the same time. The accidents were caused by a large volume of smoke from two controlled burns. One individual was airlifted to a hospital for treatment. Nine agencies of first responders visited the accident site.
Madisonville’s fire department is hiring. Fire Chief Jason Eli had these words for the city council. (Clip in audio below) Eli says the fire academy will begin in July.
In Greenville, the Tourism Commission is improving the system for using funding requests. The commission will now accept applications for the Tourism Advancement Grant once a year. They say this will ensure funding is distributed fairly and effectively. The deadline is at midnight on April 14th. The application can be found online on the Facebook page of the Greenville Tourism Commission.
