The senator representing Hopkins County says the Kentucky and Indiana transportation cabinets will work together to form a new quasi-governmental tolling authority that will help finance the remaining costs of the Ohio River Crossing project. Robby Mills says he was able to get 150 million dollars for section 2 of the project for planning, engineering and design. He says this funding will keep things moving forward over the next 18 months.
The driver of a semi truck that was swerving along I-69 and did not respond to the officer’s siren for a traffic stop is facing three charges. Andrew Blythe was taken to the Hopkins County Detention Center Friday afternoon. During the traffic stop, he disagreed with the officer that the truck was swerving along the highway. A search of the vehicle produced a small baggie of meth. Blythe is charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of a controlled substance.
In Hollywood, actors have to pass the screen test. Apparently, cities and communities have to as well, and it appears Madisonville has passed the test. A couple of films have already been done here and more are likely on the way. The community is also learning more about what Hollywood is looking for. Mayor Kevin Cotton explains. (Clip in audio below) Working with the film makers will be the new West Kentucky Film Commission.
Harming a gas line is exactly what Madisonville Public Works does not want to do, but sometimes it happens. They were working on the street at 17-75 Highland Drive when it occurred. Since it was a slow leak, no evacuations were needed. Atmos Energy handled the repair. (0326/1045)
The driver of a Chryslter P-T Cruiser with two two broken tail lights is facing charges. Prisco Mora was arrested on Saturday afternoon. The officer did the traffic stop on West Arch Street. Mora was also not able to supply a driver’s license. Records show that Mora had been stopped in April of 2023, and found at that time, not to have a driver’s license.
The Webster County Sheriff’s Office says the woman who ran off the road near Slaughters on Saturday afternoon is facing five charges. Deputies says they could see signs of impairment with Filana Miller after the crash on State Route 120. Miller had a one-year-old child who was unsecured in a car seat.
In Webster County, a section of Kentucky 28-36 will have some restrictions today. Crews will be taking soil and rock samples from near the Slover Creek Bridge. The state is trying to determine the safest and most efficient design for a bridge.
This is National Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month. At the same time, state lawmakers are considering a bill that would require animal control officers to undergo training on child abuse recognition. Joye Keeley of the Kentucky Link Coalition says in 88 percent of homes with physical abuse, animal abuse is also occurring. (Clip in audio below)
For much of the month, a section of a state highway in Muhlenberg County will be blocked. Work is underway on KY 853 to replace cross drains. The job will involve the replacement of 11 cross drains from KY 1-89 to Cave Springs Road. It should be completed by mid-April.
