The National Weather Service says while the rain has ended, the flooding still has a way to go. If you encounter high water, turn around, don’t drown!
The home to almost 200 cats and dogs needs a lot of work as a result of last week’s wind damage. The front half of the roof at the Hopkins County Humane Society on Laffoon Trail was pulled off. That’s where the administrative offices and cat shelter areas are located. County Judge Executive Jack Whitfield says it’s not going to be an overnight fix. (Clip in audio below)
It’s that time of year when a dumpster is available for the residents of Mortons Gap. It will be located at the park and will be available until Monday, the 14th. When the dumpster is filled for the 2nd time, it will be removed from the site. The dumpster is not for some items, like tires, household trash, and paint.
In Washington, our junior senator is reintroducing legislation aimed at protecting families and businesses from the skyrocketing costs of tariffs. Rand Paul says the measure reasserts Congress’s constitutional authority over taxation and serves as a check on presidential overreach that threatens the economic wellbeing of every American. The bill aims to strengthen our system of checks and balances by requiring Congressional consent for any tariffs that significantly impact businesses and consumers.
Was it a skunk or a gas leak? In this case, it was a skunk. A few days ago, the homeowners on Country Club Lane were told by the M-P-D that their gas monitors found no evidence of a gas leak, but they did locate an open crawl space with a strong skunk smell.
Dawson Springs is experiencing flooding like never before. Officials say the city is coordinating rescue efforts and monitoring the rising water levels around the clock. They say it’s dangerous to be in the water due to the potential for electric currents. The water level may still rise due to the tributaries. The police chief of Dawson Springs has invited President Trump to survey the devastation. The president has approved an emergency declaration for Kentucky.
The new president of the The Madisonville-Hopkins County Economic Development Corporation has community ties and leadership experience. The Board of Directors unanimously elected State Representative Wade Williams to the post. Williams is an Army veteran, a former Madisonville Chief of Police, and has held leadership roles in the private sector. Williams has a Bachelor of Science from Oakland City University and a Master of Public Administration from Murray State University. Williams plans to fulfill his term as the representative for the 4th House District.
A Kentucky lawmaker in Washington thinks it’s wrong for taxpayers to fund disinformation and propaganda on such networks as N-P-R and P-B-S because they are publicly funded. Congressman James Comer shared this thoughts during a hearing. (Clip in audio below)
A Webster County educator is being honored. Tayler Knight teaches high school social studies and online U-S History for Lindsey Wilson College. Knight will join the American Institutes for Research’s team of teachers, higher education leaders, and business and community members to review the Kentucky Academic Standards for the Social Studies Review Committee.
