Webster County Emergency Management is reporting a successful water rescue. State transportation officials were checking water levels when they found the vehicle and called for help. It was on Highway 109 in Wheatcroft early on Wednesday. The victim was transported to Deaconess E-M-S for evaluation. Webster Search and Rescue along with seven other agencies participated.
The report of a driver doing burnouts near Berry Plastics is what drew the police to Sergio Carbajal. The officer who reported to the scene could actually hear the vehicle revving its engine. He discovered that Carbajal had an inadequate muffler and no operator’s license. He also said he didn’t know his Social Security number or how to spell his middle name.
Today is the day of the annual Civic Club Blood Drive. It’s at the Madisonville Lions Club at 505 Hospital Drive from 10 until 5.
The Hopkins County Clerk is thanking all of the farmers who have voluntarily given their 10-dollar donation with their registration renewal. Keenan Cloern described to the fiscal court where the money goes. (Clip in audio below)
The Pennyrile Area Development District is involved in a safety project. The public planning and development organization is developing a Safety Action Plan for Hopkins, Muhlenberg, and seven other counties. The objective is to identify countermeasures to improve safety. The plan will then be used to direct local forces and funds and pursue additional funding.
Hopkins County is working with FEMA to get more storm shelters. Judge Executive Jack Whitfield says it’s a slow process since it’s a federal decision. (Clip in audio below)
The Hopkins County Humane Society is looking to re-establish itself following the tornado last week that greatly damaged their main building but did not harm the animals. Rescues and non-profit organizations are stepping up to relocate the dogs. That’s already occurred with the cats. It’s hard to determine how long it will take to repair the damage to their main building on Laffoon Trail. The city is helping with the restoration.
A new swimming pool is in the plans for City Park in Dawson Springs. It will be constructed adjacent to the location of the old one. City officials have met with design architects and engineers. The announcement was made at a Chamber of Commerce luncheon yesterday. Mayor Jenny Sewell says the state will put up a disaster office in Hopkins County. She says 33 FEMA projects are in the works. Nine of them are for roads and stormwater.
A Webster County man is being charged with assault. Back in December, Christian Langston’s live-in girlfriend locked herself in the bathroom and called the police after he allegedly injured her. She was granted an emergency protection order. Langston was arrested this week by the M-P-D on Nebo Road.
