In Hopkins County, school buses will avoid any sections of roads known to be closed or partially blocked. Families who live in these areas will need to make alternate transportation arrangements until conditions improve. The Madisonville police say the man who phoned the non-emergency phone number to talk about something that served no legitimate purpose is being charged with harassing (huh-RASS-ing) communications. Johnny Nance was warned not to phone back, but he did. The police finally determined that Nance was intoxicated, and was engaged in meaningless conversations that tied up emergency services
Thanks to Arbor Day, there’s lots of emphasis on trees this month. The program has the strong support of Mayor Kevin Cotton. (Clip in audio below) The mayor says the grade 3 catagory only includes unique threes.
Webster County will be receiving infrastructure funding from the state. Representative Jim Gooch says this will finance the resurfacing of Andy Sisk Road and of Waggoner Chalybeate (cuh-LIB-ee-it) Road. Mr. Gooch believes this effort will go a long way in promoting healthy growth in Webster County.

As expected, the flood waters continue to impact Webster County due to the Tradewater and Green rivers. If you live in Webster County and have been impacted by floodwaters and need assistance, you’re asked to fill out a form with the Emergency Management Office. That form is on the Facebook page of Webster County Emergency Management.
The Madisonville police are reporting the arrest of two people on I-69. After officers witnessed their vehicle nearly side swiping another one, they chased it until they ran out of gas. Dontavis Walker, was wanted in Tennessee on felony warrants. His passenger was Hawa (HAH-wah) Swalis (SWAH-lee). During the chase, the M-P-D saw Walker and Swalis change seats. Their car had the smell of marijuana. Both Walker and Swalis are being charged with fleeing from the police and driving under the influence. A bag of weed was found in their vehicle.
Kentucky experts say spring is the time to watch for seasonal allergy symptoms and try over-the-counter medications before seeing a specialist. Dr. Gregory Carnevale (car-nay-VAH-lee) with United Healthcare says one of the best ways to prevent allergies is modifying time outdoors. (Clip in audio below)
A smoking electrical outlet is what drew the fire department to a Brown Road residence. The breaker was shut off and the homeowner was told that power could not be restored until it was fixed by an electrician.
Madisonville Community College is inviting community members to immerse themselves in different traditions, food, and entertainment. The annual International Celebration is today from 9:30 until 2. The flag ceremony involves the Hopkins Central J-R-O-T-C. The purpose of the event is to promote understanding and awareness.
