Part of the governor’s request for a Major Disaster Declaration due to the April floods is being honored by the president. Congressman James Comer says this will enable Hopkins County residents affected by the flooding to receive reimbursement for essential expenses and serious needs not covered by insurance or other forms of aid. Eligible assistance may include rental support, home repairs or replacement, and temporary lodging.
Disaster Relief Kentucky is offering assistance to homeowners in Webster County who encountered flood damage. Their services are provided by Kentucky Baptist Disaster Relief and their partners. To make contact, visit the Webster County Schools Facebook page and scan the Q-R Code.
It was careless driving that led to a traffic stop on I-69 Thursday afternoon. The officer immediately noticed the strong smell of alcohol in Michael Mallard’s Nissan Altima. Digital scales with a white substance on them were located in the glove box. A large amount of methamphetamine was found in Mallard’s truck.
A local lawmaker believes his new full time job will compliment his elected position. State Representative Wade Williams sees a number of similarities between holding an elected office and being the president of the Madisonville-Hopkins County Economic Development Corporation. This is good news for a number of people. The National Association of REALTORS Relief Foundation and Kentucky REALTORS are providing an additional 100-thousand dollars in relief funding to help those who were impacted by the flooding beginning on April 2nd. The deadline to apply for those funds is May 30th.
Kentucky Emergency Management says it’s common for people to lose important documents during a disaster. You can get assistance retrieving them by visiting your local FEMA Disaster Recovery Center. They can guide you through the process and connect you with additional resources.
A parking lot incident is what drew the M-P-D to Elk Creek Manor on Hickory Drive on Thursday afternoon. The police report says Lisa Beals was walking away when the officer asked her some questions. He could tell she was intoxicated. Beals even admitted that she was very drunk. The Standardized Field Sobriety Test proved it. She is charged with D-U-I and with not maintaining auto insurance.
Health and Human Services Secretary Robert Kennedy Junior’s decision to cut a majority of jobs at the federal agency responsible for worker health and safety is seen as a direct attack on Kentucky workers by labor unions. At the state level, House Bill 398 would also have dismantled Kentucky’s worker protection standards and requirements. The president of the Kentucky AFL-CIO is Dustin Reinstedler. The Hopkins County Young Professionals are accepting nominations for the Hopkins County Hall of Fame. Nominees are to be persons who have made a lasting impact on the community. Details are on the the Facebook page of the Hopkins County Young Professionals. Nominations will be accepted through May 11th.
