The safety project near the James Madison Middle School campus in Madisonville is complete. The transportation cabinet says the work was done about 2 months ahead of schedule. In addition to the widening of Brown Rd, a turning lane onto school property created an addition 700 feet of space for the car line. Today is the first day of the refigured car rider line.
A Madisonville couple charged with criminally abusing their child will have their case heard by the grand jury. The police say 32 year old, Cody Alfred and Jayda McDowell never transitioned their 3 year old to solid food. Social Services says the child is doing well. Channel 14 is reporting that Alfred and McDowell thought the child had a eating disorder but they never had her diagnosed or treated by a doctor.
When the Madisonville city council meets this afternoon they will hear the first reading of an ordinance to amend the code of ordinances relating to property taxes. The meeting begins at 4;30 at city hall.
In Hopkins County there’s a school board meeting this afternoon. Superintendent, Amy Smith, will recognize the students in the Governors School for the Arts. She will also comment on this years professional growth plan.
First day for preschool is the 28th. School district will closed on Labor Day, Monday, September 2nd.

A busy residential road in Madisonville will be repaved this week. Stagecoach Rd is KY 1069. The work from John Thomas Rd to Roscoe Veazey Rd should begin today and be completed by Friday. Just over 4 and a half miles will be resurfaced.
The driver who swapped seats at an intersection just after seeing a police officer is being charged with driving with a suspended license. On Thursday night, the officer noticed that Jason Kaggs hopped out of the Chrysler Grand Voyager as it was stopped at an intersection on East Arch. Jason Kaggs admitted to the officer that he had changed his seats after the officer had checked on Kaggs’s license.
The Hopkins County Health Department is keeping the tax rate at the same level. Director Denise Beach says the presence of other medical organizations is keeping her busy making ends meet. The rate has not been changed for over a decade.
FEMA says survivors of the May 21st to the 27th sever storms may be eligible for child care assistance even if they did not have property damage. The appropriation covers standard child care service fees and personal assistance services that support activities of daily living for individuals with disabilities. The state representative for Hopkins County is beginning his reelection campaign. 100 people attended the kick off event for Wade Williams. He says, they were a diverse group from every area of the county.
