The football season is bringing with it a new layer of safety. There is a new protocol as to when players can practice or play games. Wet bulb globe temperature is the calculation of humidity, wind pattern, heat index, and the overall temperature averaged together. If it’s over 92 degrees, no games or practices are permitted. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report that 84 percent of high school football heat illnesses occur during practices.
The driver of a badly swerving truck on South Main Monday night had two encounters with the police in a short time. Jose Lopez had been told to turn down his music. During the traffic stop about 20 minutes later, a strong alcoholic smell was detected in his Ram pickup. Lopez had the countenance of an intoxicated person. He appeared to be unsteady. Lopez was transported to the county jail.
As school resumes, Muhlenberg County is being reminded of an important health fact. Sick children are not be taken to school. Students must not have a fever for 24 hours before returning.
Interest is building daily for the hot air balloons at Mahr Park. Deputy City Administrator Brad Long says Madisonville Illuminated is going to be quite an experience. Tickets are needed for rides, but otherwise, the event is free. They say folding chairs and blankets will be make your visit quite comfortable. It will be from 4 until 10 on Friday, the 30th at Mahr Park.

The Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office is charging a man with rape and burglary. 31-year-old Cameron Tandy was arrested on Wednesday. The crime occurred on Sunday, the 18th at the residence of the victim. A search warrant preceded the arrest. The H-C-S-O says Tandy broke into the victim’s home. She suffered minor injuries and was treated at Baptist Heath Deaconess. Tandy will appear in court on September 6th. He’s being held in the county jail on a 350-thousand dollar cash bond.
There are high expectations for this year’s second annual air show at the Anton airport. City spokesperson Lucy Best says last year’s show reached everyone’s expectations.
In Muhlenberg County, the results of the housing analysis are in. It provides valuable insights into the housing market. The shipping container project at Madisonville North will impact thousands of Africans in Liberia. Under the leadership of agriculture teacher Brian Welch, nearly 500 students converted a 40-foot shipping container into a medical clinic. The supporting firms include Harbor Freight Tools for Schools, and U-P-S.
