A Madisonville resident is admitting his crimes to the police. Jay Stinson allowed the police to search his residence for drugs. They found a bag of marijuana, several glass smoking devices, and 3 handguns. Stinson confessed to the Department for Community Based Services that he consumed marijuana with a minor two times recently.
Hopkins County is hiring election workers. The County Clerk’s Office says there’s a training session on October 3rd. Election day is November 5th. The pay is 250-dollars.
More communities in the Commonwealth are considering special zoning ordinances for solar field sites that aim to protect landowners, while supporting the shift to renewable energy. Ashley Wilmes with the Kentucky Resources Council says her organization has developed a model planning and zoning ordinance officials can use as a resource. Critics of industrial-scale solar operations on agricultural land say they disrupt local wildlife habitat, contribute to soil erosion and topsoil loss, and could pose a risk to future food production.
The Hopkins County Humane Society is reaching out to the community for help. Kitten food donations are needed. You can drop off your donation directly at the shelter or have it shipped to 22-10 Laffoon Trail in Madisonville.
It’s a good time to adopt a dog in Dixon. At the present time, Webster County Animal Care and Control says the price for a spayed or neutered dog is half off. Over 50 dogs are available.

In Madisonville, there will be a 9-11 Memorial Service this afternoon (Wednesday). American Legion Post 6 says the speakers will include Madisonville Mayor, Kevin Cotton, Police Chief Steve Bryan, Fire Chief Jason Ellie, Freedom Flag Foundation of Kentucky Ambassador Jane McKnight, and Americanism Chairman Terri Whitfield. American Legion Post 6 is located at 856 Legion Drive. The service begins at 2:30.
In Madisonville, the mayor is talking about a recent meeting he attended in Orlando. Kevin Cotton says he is is amazed at how many people had complimentary things to say about the city. Cotton says the E-D-C is spearheading a detailed housing study.
Time is running out to apply for FEMA assistance from the May storms that began on the 21st. The website you need to visit is Disaster-Assistance dot g-o-v.
The automotive program at Muhlenberg County High School is making a splash. The Maintenance and Light Repair program has received accreditation from Automotive Service Excellence, or A-S-E. Successful students graduate with an A-S-E certification.
The deer season is here. The archery season runs for the next four and a half months. Crossbow hunting will be permitted from the 21st to January 20th. Firearms will be permitted from November 9th to November 24th. A deer permit allows a hunter to take up to four deer.
