This is a sad time in the Webster County School District. Third grader Grayson Wilson has passed due to leukemia. The school district encourages eveyone to wear orange on Friday in memory of Grayson Wilson.
The United Way of the Coalfield is taking nominations for its Citizen of the Year. Eligible residents must live in Hopkins, Muhlenberg, or Caldwell County who have made a difference through their generosity, volunteerism, and dedication. This is the first year of the United Way of the Coalfield Community Impact Award. Their Facebook page is the contact point for nominations.
The Muhlenberg County Schools have two new board members. The terms of Jan Yonts and Logan Porter begin in January. Yonts and Porter have taken both the written and oral oath.#2
A suspicious vehicle at the Huck’s on National Mine Road is what attracted the police last Friday night. The vehicle had been in the parking lot for about 6 hours. A woman in the vehicle came into the store several times asking employees what state she was in. The investigating officer determined that Theresa Smith had been drinking and was also under the influence of medications. Smith was charged 6 crimes, including criminal simulation and possession of meth and drug paraphernalia.
A traffic stop is common when a cop spots a person known to have multiple warrants. Marshall Gray was arrested in Madisonville on Friday afternoon. He was in possession of a syringe loaded with liquid meth. Gray has been arrested on meth charges before.

Webster County is rounding up winter coats, hats, and gloves for the Angel Tree Program. It runs from now until December 1st. The drop off locations are the courthouse, Clay Drug Store, Sebree First Baptist, and the Providence City building.
