The Madisonville police are charging a Princeton man with sex crimes with a child under 12 years of age. The police say 23-year-old Mason Mayes of Princeton asked the child to send him sexually explicit material. He also was planning to meet the child. Mayes is charged with distributing obscene matter to a minor, and with procuring a minor by electronic means.
The state senator for Hopkins County believes Kentucky is moving in the right direction to end the state income tax. Like all residents, Robbie Mills was glad to see the rate recently drop from 4 percent to 3 and a half percent. Lawmakers have been reducing the tax by half a percentage point each year until it’s eliminated. Mills says the most healthy and productive states in the country have no income tax or are in the process of doing away with it like Kentucky.
The city of Madisonville will see more building and construction this year than is the norm. Mayor Kevin Cotton says the sewer system project may arguably have the greatest impact of all of the construction projects underway. It won’t be completed until next year.
The Kentucky Community and Technical College System is taking steps to address food insecurity at its colleges. In a study conducted by Trellis Research, 48 percent of K-C-T-C-S students who responded reported they didn’t know where their next meal was coming from. We now know the date of the grand opening of the Kentucky Sports Factory. It will be on Saturday, March 8th from 11 until 2. The ribbon cutting ceremony will include giveaways and presentations.
A man with multiple warrants is now in police custody. Samuel Holeman was picked up on Thursday afternoon when an officer spotted him walking in the middle of Dulin Street. As the officer was speaking to him, he tossed something into the grass. After he was handcuffed, the officer found a glass pipe used for smoking meth. Holeman was transported to the detention center.
A Madisonville driver is recovering from a 2-vehicle collision on Thursday during the noon hour. The police say both vehicles were side by side going in the same direction on East Arch until 29-year-old Savannah Crick of Greenville attempted to change lanes. The collision disabled both vehicles. Crick was transported to the E-R with head and face injuries. The other driver was 54-year-old Anthony Crabtree of Madisonville.
The governor is a strong believer is universal pre-K. He believes this will be one of the most important issues before the General Assembly. Mr. Beshear says pre-K is the single best way to boost the workforce.
One of Kentucky’s newest certified peace officers is with the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office. Colby Childers is being congratulated for completing the 20 week-long Basic Training in Richmond at the Department of Criminal Justice. Childers is now prepared to start Field Training.
